Renovation and extension of the Hotel Creu de Tau in Capdepera
Renovation and expansion of two historic buildings to create a 4★ city hotel, with marés stone, lime, aged ceramic tiles and matte stucco in the interiors.
Contemporary hotel in living heritage
The project renovates and expands two existing buildings in the heart of Capdepera, transforming them into a single complex for a 4-star city hotel. The site is part of the former Franciscan Nuns' Convent, a historical context that demands careful intervention and materials compatible with its original character. The project respects the building's volume and incorporates Mediterranean textures: aged ceramic tiles, marés stone, and lime mortars that restore the complex's serene tone. The result combines contemporary comfort with a sense of material heritage, creating a luminous, intimate space that remains true to the town's built landscape.
Traditional building envelope and updated systems
The roof is constructed with aged ceramic tiles, complemented by moldings and marés stone pieces set with mortar and sand, restoring the building's classic appearance. The facades feature a tinted Stolit K 6.0 coating, which acts as a continuous lime plaster, suitable for breathability and aesthetic integration with the historic surroundings. Exterior paving consists of 40x40 cm pinyolet tiles set in Portland cement mortar, while interior paving uses 2-3 cm thick marés stone flooring laid with tile adhesive. The project includes a complete renovation of the building's systems, ensuring efficiency and functionality appropriate for hotel use.
Tile, marés and lime
The marés stone becomes the dominant material, used in flooring, vertical cladding, and roof moldings, reinforcing the local identity and integrating the new additions into the historic fabric. Stolit K lime mortar allows for a continuous, nuanced façade that is resistant to the Mediterranean climate. Inside, the intervention introduces a matte lime stucco applied by hand to a vertical surface, providing a soft texture and a subtle reflection of light. The selection of materials prioritizes high-quality solutions that are compatible with the existing buildings, balancing tradition, durability, and a serene Mediterranean aesthetic.
